Job-related accident kills Lowe's employee

The large home improvement stores may be a do-it-yourself person's favorite place to shop. However, because these stores are so large and carry such a wide variety of merchandise and tools, the employees may face a higher risk of suffering a serious job-related accident. Lowe's Home Improvement -- which has its headquarters in North Carolina -- recently lost a male employee in a terrible mishap.

The accident occurred earlier this month at a store located in the Lone Star State. While details surrounding the accident have not been released, it is know that a 23-year-old man was fatally injured when a rack of lumber toppled onto him. The store was closed to the public shortly after the mid-morning accident. Company employees were not permitted to share any further information.

Officials with the Occupational Health and Safety Administration are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the fatal incident. A release from the corporate headquarters indicated that the company would also conduct its own investigation into the worker's death. The company did provide trained counselors to provide assistance to employees who were distressed by the man's death.

The surviving family of the deceased worker will likely qualify for death benefits from the state's workers' compensation program. North Carolina employees who suffer a job-related accident are entitled to file a claim for benefits from a similar program here. Furthermore, one is ensured of the right to seek the assistance of qualified professionals in order to receive all of the monies to which one is entitled.
