Steps to consider when trying to become a U.S. citizen

One couple recently shared their experience when they attempted to complete the naturalization process. While they held valid green cards and were able to renew their permits without difficulty, each one has been unable to take the final steps to become a U.S. citizen. While there may be many immigrants currently living in North Carolina, there are some important points to remember when beginning the naturalization process.

According to this couple's account, federal officials believed that they were not accurate on their applications as to when they had married. It has been stated that it is best to be as specific as possible when filling out documents concerning any phase of the naturalization process. An applicant must be able to prove that he or she has resided lawfully in the U.S. for the stipulated time period before applying for citizenship. It is also vital to show loyalty to the country and to have accurate dates and details for any required information on the official forms.

There are branches of a program located throughout the United States that offers assistance to those immigrants who desire to become citizens but may lack the knowledge of where to begin. This program, New Americans Campaign, strives to provide those applicants who are eligible for naturalization with the tools they may need to complete the process, including providing referrals to the classes that are offered for learning English. Other services include help for passing the tests that are required and ensuring that the applicants are prepared for their interviews.

Thousands of immigrants have been helped through the program. However, there may be other services that an applicant may require, including navigating the sometimes difficult legal requirements before being accepted into the naturalization programs. North Carolina residents who are unsure of where to begin in their own quest to become a U.S. citizen do have recourse to experienced help that can provide assistance whenever questions arise over how to handle the legalities of seeking citizenship.
